Natchitoches, LA 2008 Calendar of Events

Christmas lights are on every night at dusk through January 6, 2009.  Downtown attractions include boat rides, dinner cruises, carriages and streetcar tours throughout the City of Lights. Shops and restaurants open late.  All events take place in the Landmark Historic District along the Cane River Lake.  November 2008

Nov. 22:   “Turn on the Holidays!” – family fun in the Historic District, children’s activities, street performers, magic acts, and
entertainment.   All day.

Nov. 22:  Children’s Christmas Ornament Painting –Natchitoches Art Guild & Gallery, 584 Front St. 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. FREE.

Nov. 22:  Natchitoches Art guild & Gallery – Open House.  584 Front St.  5 p.m. – 8 p.m.  FREE.

Nov. 22:  Festival of Lights Opening Night Ceremony – downtown riverbank.  6:00 p.m.

Nov. 22:  Holiday Open House – Historic District Business Association (Shops & attractions open late).  6 – 8 p.m.

Nov. 22:  Musical Entertainment– downtown riverbank stage.  6 – 9 p.m.  Free Admission.

Nov. 22:  Fireworks.  7 p.m.  FREE.

Nov. 29:  Fleur de Lis Arts & Crafts Show – Christmas crafts, jewelry, decorations & gifts. Natchitoches Events Center, 750 Second Street.  10 a.m. – 5 p.m.   Free Admission.

Nov. 29:  Open House at Natchitoches Art guild & Gallery, 584 Front St.  12 p.m. – 8 p.m.  FREE.

Nov. 29:  Musical entertainment -- downtown riverbank stage.  6 – 9 p.m.  Free Admission.

Nov. 29:  Fireworks – Sponsored by the Historic District Business Association.  7 p.m. FREE


December 2008

Dec. 4:  Natchitoches/Northwestern Christmas Gala, A.A. Fredericks Auditorium NSU campus. 7:30 p.m. 

Dec. 5:  Open House at Natchitoches Art Guild & Gallery, 584 Front St.  12 p.m. – 8 p.m.  FREE.

 Dec. 5:  Christmas Flotilla – Parade of lighted barges on the Cane River Lake – Downtown Riverbank.  6 p.m.  Free Admission.

Dec. 5:  Entertainment Fleur de Lis Stage.  6:30 p.m.  Free Admission.

Dec. 5:  Natchitoches/Northwestern Christmas Gala, A. A. Fredericks Auditorium NSU campus. 7 & 9 p.m. 

Dec. 6:  82nd Annual Christmas Festival, Louisiana’s premiere holiday event.  Daylong celebration with entertainment, arts, crafts and food vendors, parade, fireworks, laser show and the lighting of 300,000+ Christmas bulbs and 100 plus riverbank set pieces.  Admission to Front Street & Downtown Riverbank - $7.00 for person 12+; $5.00 children 6-12; under age 6 free.

Dec. 9:   Lesson & Carols” - Immaculate Conception Church, 613 Second Street.  7:30 p.m.  Free Admission.

Dec. 10:  Holiday Tour of Homes, hosted by Natchitoches Historic Foundation.  5 – 8 p.m.

Dec. 13:  Féte de Hiver.  Fort St. Jean Baptiste SHS, Celebrate Christmas 18th century style with historians, re-enactors and period merchants.  9 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  $2 for persons over 12 & under 62.

Dec. 13:  Les Amies Christmas Treasures Arts & Crafts Sale --  Natchitoches Arts Center, 716 Second St. 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. FREE

Dec. 13:  Christmas Downriver.  Cane River Creole National Historic Park.  $.  Cane River National Heritage Area celebrates a traditional Creole Christmas with special tours, educational programs and musical events at Cane River historic sites.  1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Dec. 13:  Children’s Christmas Party – Natchitoches Parish Library, 450 Second St.  Sponsored by Main Street & Old Courthouse State Museum.  FREE
