LOUISIANA STATE EXHIBIT MUSEUM TO PRESENT SIGNATURES EXHIBIT

Kick off the Christmas holiday season at the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum in Shreveport, Louisiana.  Secretary of State Jay Dardenne, the Friends of the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum, the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier, and Caddo Parish schools announces the 20th Annual Greening of the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum Friday, November 30, 2007 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.  This year’s theme is Native Americans of Louisiana:  Past and Present.

Every year the museum invites third grade students to the museum for a day of Christmas celebration.  Students enjoy the traditional tree decorating contest in which classes from each school will decorate a tree in this years’ theme with ornaments they have made before the Greening date.  Each class spends no more than $30 per class making ornaments.

Students will also make ornaments that will adorn the museum’s Christmas tree in the front lobby and enjoy a performance by the Opera Express before the picnic lunch.  The morning ends with the announcement of the Christmas tree contest winners.  The trees will be judged and awarded a first prize of $150, a second prize of $100, a third prize of $75, and a fourth prize of $50.

The museum Christmas tree and the students’ trees will remain on display throughout the holiday season.  The public is invited to view these holiday tidings during regular museum hours: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, noon until 4 p.m. The museum will be closed from December 22 through 25th, 2007 for the Christmas holidays.  The museum is located at 3015 Greenwood Road, between Hearne and Jewella Streets.

Admission is free and tours are available by appointment.  For more information about the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum and the Secretary of State’s Museums Program, please visit our Web site at http://www.sos.louisiana.gov/museums .
