Shreveport &
Bossier City, LA
Shreveport-Bossier City’s
December on the Red celebration is the center of the Holiday
Trail of Lights. The sister cities offer bright lights
and neon nights.
December on the Red begins on Thanksgiving and lasts throughout
the holiday season. Our celebrations have the usual Christmas
offerings including twinkling lights, holiday displays,
and parades. But this wouldn’t be Louisiana if we
didn’t add a little spice to the holiday season.
With festivals, live performances, tours, and shopping,
you’re sure to find everything to make your season
bright.
We kick off the season with flare and boom. Big boom from
fireworks that is! The Saturday after Thanksgiving Rockets
Over the Red dazzle the people lining the banks of
the Red River. This fireworks display is the largest in
the state and truly spectacular. The display is synchronized to music and can be seen and heard from both sides of the river, RiverView Park in Shreveport and the Louisiana Boardwalk in Bossier City.
We show our holiday spirit in grand style with festivals
throughout our two parishes. The Christmas on Wheels Festival
showcases beautifully decorated tree displays along
side vintage automobiles at the Ark-La-Tex Antique and
Classic Vehicle. Just a short drive to Vivian will take
you to the Country Christmas Festival complete
with a 5k run and parade. And what would the City of Roses
be without roses? Christmasin Roseland is a walking
tour of the Gardens of the American Rose Center. The entire
garden is lit with bright, twinkling, colorful lights and
huge, wooden Christmas cards made by area students. All
kinds of entertainment perform during Roseland,
from school bands to local musicians. Oh, yeah, and the
big guy in the red suit will be there, too!
Christmas just wouldn’t be Christmas without a huge,
three-story pine tree, right? The Louisiana Boardwalk is
a nearly half-mile long outdoor shopping outlet, complete
with nearly 60 shops, 20 eateries, a Regal Cinema and a
nightlife district. Every year the Boardwalk erects an
ornate three-story tree.
Hop in the car and tour the many residential and businesses who deck the halls with brilliant light displays. The
Southern Hills area of Shreveport has the Christmas
in the Hills celebration. There is a parade, holiday
street banners and more than 200 decorated and lighted
outdoor Christmas trees for visitors to view. And while
we are talking about parades, the Bossier City Chamber
of Commerce sponsors a parade every year. The parade
starts and ends at CenturyTel Center.
The Nutcracker has been a well-known Christmas story throughout
the world. Annually, Shreveport’s Metropolitan
Ballet brings the Nutcracker alive at the Riverview
Hall in downtown Shreveport.
And hey, while you’re there you might as well head
on over to ICE, a Red River Revel holiday event
where folks can ice-skate outdoors.
So, come let Shreveport-Bossier City, Louisiana spice
up your Yule-tide season! For more details and the official
