Holiday Displays in Shreveport-Bossier

The holiday season is always full of so many events and extravaganzas that sometimes a little change of pace is needed. These holiday lights and displays give you the chance to slow down and enjoy what’s left of the holiday season.

The American Rose Center has been transformed into a winter wonderland for Christmas in Roseland. Visitors can walk through thousands of lights, multiple lighted displays, and see giant Christmas Cards painted by local schools. Christmas in Roseland is from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., every night until Dec. 23. Admission is $5 per person or $20 per carload.

Louisiana Boardwalk Outlets now has extended holiday hours so you have more time to enjoy their holiday decorations while you do your last minute shopping. Louisiana Boardwalk Outlets is celebrating the holiday season with lights throughout the streets, wreaths on all the light posts, a fountain that is in sync with Christmas music, and one of the largest outdoor Christmas trees in the region. Their extended hours are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. from Dec. 17 to 22, and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Dec. 23.

The Shreveport Aquarium is putting on a Laser Light Show. This event includes a tour of the festively decorated aquarium followed by a one-of-a-kind laser show under their dome. Following the second show of the night, Santa will come out to read ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas to all of the guests. The Laser Light Show will take place at 6:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. every night from Dec. 19 to Dec. 23. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for kids.

The R.W. Norton Art Gallery has a new Christmas Exhibit that explores different holiday traditions and their origins. Guests can learn about the Mexican legend that led to the large poinsettia tree on display and view Russian art depicting the original St. Nick. They also have rare art pieces by Rembrandt, Michelangelo, Canaletto, and more to help celebrate the holiday season. The Norton is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday; and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday. The Christmas Exhibit and Poinsettia Tree will be up until Jan. 8.

One of the best parts of the holiday season is the signature flavors like gingerbread, eggnog and peppermint that are often only available during the month of December. Local restaurants in Shreveport-Bossier have taken everyone’s favorite flavors and put their own spin on them. Whether it’s candy, cupcakes or coffee, you can find a version of these flavors in just about anything. Just be sure to try them before they’re gone for the year!

This holiday season, Bon Temps Coffeehouse is selling the Jack Frost and the Iced Gingerbread Cookie Latte. The Jack Frost is an espresso-based drink with white chocolate and hints of peppermint and vanilla. It’s then topped with whipped cream and crushed peppermint. The Iced Gingerbread Cookie is made up of gingerbread spices and white chocolate, topped with whipped cream and gingerbread crumbs. Bon Temps is open from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

The winter drinks menu at Rhino Coffee includes the White Mocha Matcha Latte, Eggnog Chai Latte, Peppermint Hot Chocolate, and the S’mores Latte. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for their seasonal pastries. The availability differs from day-to-day, but you might be able to get an eggnog muffin or cranberry scone to go with your morning coffee. Rhino Coffee Uptown is open from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday; and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday. Rhino Coffee Downtown is open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday; and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday.

If you’re more of a tea person, Glenwood Tea Room has tea lattes that come in three holiday flavors: gingerbread, salted caramel cocoa and tres leches. Pair it with a Sugar Plum Scone and pick up a bag of Sugar Plum Spice tea leaves from their gift shop to take home with you. Glenwood Tea Room is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.

Buttercups Cupcakes is now selling six new cupcake flavors for the holiday season. The new flavors are Gingerbread, Eggnog Cheesecake, Green Grinch Chocolate Mint, Santa’s Sugar Cookie, Hot Cocoa, and Candied Cranberry. Buttercups Cupcakes is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

Whisk Dessert Bar has added house-made hot chocolate to their menu for the winter. The hot chocolate is topped with a scoop from a foot-tall disc of handmade marshmallow that is roasted by a blowtorch tableside. Some of their seasonal desserts include an eggnog cake shaped like a mug of hot chocolate and a white chocolate cheesecake with a gingerbread crust. Whisk Dessert Bar is open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday; and 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday.

Santa Claus is Coming to Town in Shreveport-Bossier

Whether you want a picture with Santa for your holiday card or you know someone that is eager to give their letter to Santa, there are plenty of opportunities to see Santa in Shreveport-Bossier this year. Each of these events offer something different so you’re bound to find the one that is tailored to what you and your loved ones are looking for to add a little Christmas magic to your holiday season.

The Benton Christmas on the Square Festival and Parade at Heritage Village Square will feature a parade, horse rides, activities, live music, and a 5k run around the square for you to enjoy before you take your picture with Santa. This festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 8. Admission is free.

Eat pancakes with Santa Claus at Breakfast with Santa at Jubilee Zoo. This breakfast will include a hayride to visit and feed the animals, a Stuff-Your-Own Christmas friend, activities, a catered breakfast by Tejas restaurant, and, of course, pictures with Santa where each child will receive a gift. Breakfast with Santa will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Dec. 8 and 15.  Tickets are $38 for kids and $10 for adults.

Milk and Cookies with Santa & Mrs. Claus is being hosted by Evolution Twirls at the historic Logan Mansion. Each child will get to enjoy story time with Mrs. Claus, milk and cookies, a treat bag, and a picture with Santa. This fundraiser will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Dec. 15. Tickets are $15 per child.

After all the milk and cookies, Santa has to stay in shape somehow so this year he’s leading Santa’s Kids Yoga Workshop at Breathe Yoga. Kids aged 4-8 will get to participate in Christmas-themed yoga session as well as holiday activities such as making snow, ornaments, and reindeer food. This unique event will take place from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Dec. 21. Tickets are $40.

Shreveport Aquarium is hosting Laser Light Show Under the Dome from Dec. 19-23. This event will feature a tour of the aquarium, cookie decorating and holiday crafts. After the second show of the night, Santa Claus will read ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas and then take pictures with the children. The aquarium tours will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and the laser light shows will take place at 6:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. Tickets are $10 for kids and $12 for adults.
