Christmas at Germantown Colony Museum

Germantown is trimmed in Christmas lights and ribbon and invites you to discover the farm and home life of Minden’s earliest settlers who traveled from Germany to the United States in preparation for the second coming of Christ. Germantown Colony, founded in 1835, is one of three sites founded by the Utopian Movement or Harmonist Society in the early days of the 19th century. The colony operated on a communal basis for 37 years, becoming the most successful site of the three.

Today you can tour cottages and a kitchen/dining hall that were once occupied by these early settlers. The onsite museum details early farm life and displays clothing, tools, and other belongings to help you imagine what life might have been like in the 1800s. Tours are free and take place Thursdays through Saturdays from 10:00am to 4:00pm.
